Rye Meadows Update

The weather and a flurry of commissions has kept me away from Rye Meadows in the last few weeks but activity is increasing on site. This week the volunteers began hedge planting and I made two new concertina sketchbooks to document their work. I look forward to sharing more of my artwork as we move into spring.

The winter colour palette is very muted and subtle but beautiful none-the-less.

My two new homemade sketchbooks and a sketch from my photographs of the fence building back in December.

Rubber Stamping

We were only 4, because of the snow, but Saturday's rubber stamping workshop was a huge success. I invited friends to be my guinea pigs so I could test timings and smooth out technical details. The results were great.
Peter made his own logo stamps and printed them on a book bag, while Lisa and Dorothy created wonderful designs which we printed on kraft paper greetings cards.

I'll be running the smoothed-out version of the same workshop during Surrey Artist's Open Studios in June, so check back here for details in a month or two. More workshops are planned for the summer, too, including Cyanotype Printing on Fabric and Making Your Own Folding Hardcover Sketchbook.
Thank you Lisa Boyce for the photographs.

Workshops 2018

I'm about to run some taster workshops before rolling out a full programme for the summer. I'm starting with a sort of hybrid print workshop - a mix of rubber stamping and lino printing - trying out techniques and materials on different surfaces before I offer it to the paying public during'Surrey Artists' Open Studios' in June. (Details from SAOS)

Later, I plan to offer 'Sun Printing with Cyanotype' (when the sun is bright enough!) and a simple bookbinding workshop.
Watch this space for more details later next month...

Happy New Year - 2018 plans

I've enjoyed painting two views of Rye Meadows this month, as a treat between bouts at my desk sorting New Year admin and my 2018 schedule.
The paintings are tall and narrow (the opposite of the fragments above) so are unlikely to be suitable for Rye Meadows greetings cards, but I intend to frame them, together with two further tall paintings, 'Spring' and 'Summer', for exhibition in June (SAOS). Watch this space for details later in the Spring.
I'll also be running workshops in The Studio this year, starting with Rubber Stamping. More info to follow shortly.
