A New Project for 2018

I was introduced to the location of my latest project this week - Artist in Residence at Rye Meadows Wetland. It's a beautiful pocket of meadows, woodland, ponds, paths and hedgerows surrounding the Rye Brook, Ashtead, Surrey. www.ryemeadows.org.uk
I'll be documenting the changing seasons in paint and print, along with conservation activities carried out by the amazing team of volunteers.
Thank you to Daphne Burnett and David Baker for this exciting commission.

Another Door Closes...

I completed a two-year MA this week (Illustration and Book Arts at UCA, Farnham). It's been hard work studying part-time while keeping illustration commissions ticking over, but it's been worth the effort. I never truly went away, but now feel I'm 'returning' to my career reinvigorated.

MA Project exploring my grandmother's memoir and photographic archive

I've already re-focussed my brain on a new book, so thoroughly in fact that, when asked at the private view to talk about the my final MA pieces, I actually couldn't remember what I had done! Here is some of it...

From the final project, WHAT IS HIDDEN - a part work inspired by Hitchcock's' Rear Window'
The new book, a graphic novel, is currently just an outline and a sketchbook of ideas. It has a slightly older target audience than my previous work - YA and adult cross-over - and will develop visual themes I've been playing with for the last two years. I can't wait to show it to you.

Making Books

Made a test book this week. Mrs. Thorwald is the name of the murdered wife in Hitchcock's Rear Window. I've always wondered about her.

Finished trimming the pages around 10.30pm, which is why the studio is dark.

The, this morning I dipped her in rose watercolour...

...hung her up to dry...

...and finally, added my new 'handmade book' stamp.
You'll have to wait until my exhibition to see the inside pages...

Sketchbook Work In Progress

Want to peak inside my sketchbook? Here's my MA sketchbook this week. Lots of ideas in various stages of development. Also a colour theme beginning to impose itself. More soon...

My Mini Museum

Here's a reminder that the Leatherhead Museum 70th Anniversary exhibition is still on. Do pop in if you are in the town - Church Street, next to the Blue Cafe. Open Thursday and Friday PM and all day Saturday.

2017! Yay!

Happy New Year! Lots happening in 2017, particularly in the next few weeks, so I'm a little too busy to blog. I'll be back soon to update you on the launch of 'Electrigirl & the Invisible Thieves' in May, my exciting museum project, my next illustration commission for Barrington Stoke and two new spooky book projects I'm hoping to complete and submit later this year, one for 7-11s and one for YA/adults.
